Students with special needs

TUKE provides applicants and students with specific needs with counselling and effective support in securing access within the admissions process and throughout their studies through a wide range of support services and measures.

A student with specific needs is considered a student:

  • with sensory, physical and multiple disabilities - e.g. a student who is blind, deaf, visually impaired, hard of hearing, with disabilities of the upper/lower limbs, etc.,
  • with a chronic disease - e.g. diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, etc.,
  • with health impairment - e.g. scoliosis, allergy, condition after surgery,
  • with a mental disorder – e.g. anxiety disorders (obsessive-compulsive disorder,...), affective disorders (depression, bipolar disorder,...), etc.,
  • with autism or other pervasive developmental disorders – e.g. Asperger's syndrome, etc.
  • with learning disabilities – e.g. dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia.

It is necessary to apply for the status of a student with specific needs at the TUKE Access Centre, where the student:

  • provides informed consent, which is part of the entrance questionnaire,
  • delivers a confirmation of the disability that is
    • a medical certificate not older than three months, which is mainly a medical report, a report on the course and development of the disease and disability or an extract from the medical documentation, or
    • the statement of a psychologist, speech therapist, school psychologist, school speech therapist or special pedagogue.

Based on the evaluation of specific needs, a Recommendation for making studies accessible and granting the status of a student with specific needs is prepared, which is approved by the vice dean for education and is available to the student and the faculty coordinator for students with specific needs.
